Comprehensive analysis of raw materials and applications of electrode paste

TIME:2025-04-10 Classification:Industry News Click:12

Raw material composition of electrode paste

The raw materials for preparing electrode paste mainly include solid carbonaceous materials and binders. The formula and preparation process of these raw materials have a direct impact on the quality of electrode paste.

Solid carbon containing materials

The main solid carbonaceous materials of electrode paste include calcined anthracite, metallurgical coke, petroleum coke, and graphite surface debris. Anthracite is particularly important due to its density and high carbon content, which can effectively improve the thermal stability, conductivity, and mechanical strength of electrodes.

Adhesive action

The binder for electrode paste mainly uses asphalt and coal tar, with the purpose of regulating the softening point. During the sintering process of electrode paste, the binder will decompose and release volatile substances, which will then be converted into coke, ensuring that the electrode forms a sturdy whole.

Formula and Application of Electrode Paste

Formula factors

In addition to the main raw materials, the formulation of electrode slurry is also crucial, as it involves multiple factors such as aggregate ratio, particle size distribution, softening point of binder, and addition amount. Different applications have different requirements for pulp.

Classification of uses of electrode paste

According to different purposes, the quality of electrode paste can be divided into two categories: standard type and sealed paste. Standard slurry is commonly used in semi closed mineral furnaces, while closed paste is commonly used in closed electric furnaces and large capacity semi closed electric furnaces due to its low roasting temperature and easy sintering characteristics. Overall, metallurgical coke and anthracite are the main raw materials, while a large amount of graphite and petroleum coke are added to the sealed paste. In terms of adhesive, standard paste often uses medium temperature asphalt, while sealed paste uses more tar and graphite chips. It should be noted that due to the relatively high prices of graphite flakes and tar, this has also to some extent pushed up the market price of sealed paste, especially high standard sealed paste.
